Exploring the interconnection of Spirituality and Happiness

Spirituality and happiness are inexplicably intertwined like the dance of Lord Shiva, a constant interplay between matter and energy. When we live in alignment with the law of co-existence and the law of mirroring, we can excel and harness our potential to the fullest. When we pause and contemplate deeply, we find ourselves experiencing and connecting with the very essence of our existence.

“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.” Albert Einstein

Are we living our life or is our life just passing by? Several years ago, I found myself engulfed in the chaos of moving homes, a demanding job, a hectic lifestyle, two young sons and conflicts in relationships. Stress was my constant companion, and happiness had become a distant dream. It was during this turbulent time that I started desperately seeking to recreate the magic of childhood – joy, laughter, spontaneity, freedom, love and contentment. My search awakened me to the power of the inner voice.

Our intuition, gut instinct or voice of awareness is the guide to doing what is right and being happy. From hereon started my journey of delving into the deeper realms of spirituality. Inculcating the habit of contemplation to listen to the inner voice helped to anchor my emotions and appreciate the abundance of life. I had to learn to be honest with myself, curious and vulnerable and above all, let go of several beliefs, attachments, and identifications to make space for love and happiness to flow. Hence, spirituality is an exploration of our deepest selves. It provides us with a sense of purpose and meaning, two essential elements that contribute significantly to our overall well-being and happiness. Spirituality is a path to inner peace, purpose, and ultimately, happiness. With time, I experienced my potential unfold, little by little like the petals of a lotus flower. I discovered that I had an innate talent to understand the essence of spirituality. Each insight unleashed the courage to take intuitive leaps of faith into the unknown in alignment with my inner voice. Living true has helped in discover my purpose and new expressions like coach, author, motivational speaker, and spiritual teacher, and filled my life with an abundance of love and joy.

Viktor Frankl said, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.

” Research has consistently shown that people who feel a strong sense of purpose are not only happier but also more resilient in the face of adversity. Their sense of purpose acts as a stimulus for personal growth and serving others selflessly. Life is a complex matrix of events and relationships, and each one of us has the freedom and choice to give meaning to life.

Happiness too is a choice, it is not something to find or get, it is who we are.

People who imbibe the principles of spirituality are able to cope better with stress because they view life holistically and adapt to change gracefully. They accept the transience and dynamism of life and their responsibility to control their response to life, rather than try to control life. This opens the doors for compassion, forgiveness and gratitude and fosters an attitude of living life with humility, equanimity and balance.

Acknowledging and accepting that I am a manifestation of the Higher Self, has helped me let go of my fear of the unknown because I know that my inner voice is the guide to navigating through all unknowns. Thus, I have focused my energies and time on learning to partner with my inner voice, rather than chase my egoistic thoughts and desires. Also, knowing my truth has helped me embrace the interconnectedness with nature and everyone, and thus, not feel helpless or alone. This approach of living with trust and surrender contributes to a more content and joyful existence. Also, it unleashes the courage to be a curious and fearless explorer and enjoy every moment to the fullest.

Essentially, spirituality fosters a sense of connection to a power beyond, what you could call, divine presence, nature, universal love, or God. It makes you feel at peace and love yourself. Also, the beauty of spirituality is that there are no dogmas. Each one of us has the freedom to choose our own path, techniques, and practices to anchor within to be happy. So, as you navigate your own path, in your pursuit of lasting happiness, ask yourself what spirituality means for you; what would give meaning and purpose to your life; what practices make you feel most alive, and expanded, and fill you with love for yourself and others.

What makes you…uniquely you?
