Therapy Isn't a Sign of Weakness When we live against our true nature, we are bound to experience disorder in our system. Now, how many of us are self aware or have the #knowledge to live true. Hence, the likelihood of mental stress is very high. This #stress could show up as a disease or mental health issue. Therefore, seeking therapy is simply an act of addressing the chemical imbalance that gets created due to ignorance or neglect or #perceptions.

Therapy is often viewed as a sign of weakness or failure because of social stigmas attached to mental health. Our self-image of ‘I am ok, there is nothing wrong with me’ inhibits us from seeking help to heal ourselves. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with depression and given treatment for a few months. My initial reaction was, how can I be depressed because I had always perceived myself to be a strong person. I had over-extended myself in trying to be the perfect mom, perfect spouse, perfect daughter, perfect professional….. In fact, once I gave myself permission to embrace my humanness, I invested in healing myself and developing self awareness to build my #confidence.

I have been working as a coach for nearly 2 decades, so I totally relate to the power of therapy, coaching, counselling, healing. Professional therapists provide a safe and confidential space for individuals to explore their emotions, thoughts, and #experiences. They employ evidence-based techniques tailored to each person's needs, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices. Therapies empower individuals to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, fostering personal growth and resilience. According to a study conducted by the American Psychological Association, therapy has been found to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety in approximately 80% of participants.

Life is full of challenges and trauma. Seeking therapy is an act of strength, resilience, because it requires an individual to look at themselves in the mirror, shed falsehoods and be authentic. While there has been a big shift in the perception towards coaching and therapy, as a society, we still have a long way to go. Let us collectively create a society that values mental health and #empowers individuals to live their lives to the fullest.
